Canadian songwriter Mac DeMarco has quietly become a pretty big deal just lately. With the release of mini album Another One he gave us a short, melancholy twenty- ish minute breakup album. It’s essentially a heartbreak laden album, about relationships, or the breakup of a relationship. It has the watery shimmering guitars, tight rhythms, and mournful lyrics. Short songs from a guy who seems to embody for some people the lovely laid back slacker of music.
It seems to be all about falling in and out of love, which we can all appreciate. The title track “Another One” sounds like it’s Mac wondering who’s at his ex girlfriend’s door. But as the album moves on we also see how Mac DeMarco has moved on with the song “Without Me”.
On the final track he leaves his address in New York and invites you to “Stop on by, I’ll make you a cup of coffee, see you later” I can’t afford a flight or I’d love to!
